reporter john rawlins spoke to students affected by the stalemate. john's live at west chester university tonight. john. >> reporter: hi, guys. marathon talks have been going on since last week. apparently they have been going on we say that because there's a news blackout right now. two schools in our area are in the state system, cheney university and west chester. west chester being the largest in the system with some 16,000 students. what will wednesday morning bring? that is the question. as for answers students say they're hard to come by. >> they've been sending us e-mails but there's not a lot of concrete det communicated with us which i think is part of the frustration. >> reporter: there's a formal news embargo as the state university system and its faculty union negotiate. the union has a clock down set on its web site set for a wednesday morning strike deadline at all 14 universities. at west chester the lack of information triggering angst

and uncertainty. >> people are confused. a lot of students are angry frustrateddism the school says if there is a strike students should report to classes saying some professors may not walk out and at least suggesting there may be an alternate professor there. >> they've kind of been keeping us in the dark so if were he do have any substitutes it will be interesting to see who they are, what they do because a lot of these classes are specialized. >> reporter: full professors start at about $46,000 a year and top off at more than 112,000 plus benefits. the system says it's offering more than 7 percent to more than 17 percent pay hike for a three year deal depending on years of service. it wants staff to pay more for medical insurance and wants more part timers. there is also sticking points over the workload of part time professors. if there is a walkout and it goes on for more than a week or two, some students worry as to how makeup classes will be structured. >> we also heard that there's a chance that they could make us come in for longer over our thanksgiving break or have night and weekend classes.

>> reporter: for those due to graduate in december, the worry. >> i'm a little worried. i do want to graduate. like i love college but i can't be here forever. >> reporter: there's never been a fact he tea walkout in the state system. there was a strike deadline set back in 2007 but it was averted. everyone hoping that that's what will happen this time as well. live in west chester, john rawlins channel6 "action news." sharrie. >> all right, john, thank you. commuters are bracing for a different type of strike that could shut down septa buses trolleys and the subway lines. union workers have authorized a strike if they cannot reach a new contract by november 1st. the union says it wants better pay and better benefits. philadelphia police are trying to track down two attackers who shot and killed a father in his own drive way. it all started as a robbery attempt around 10:30 last night on the 5100 block of f street in the city's crescentville section. 28-year-old jhonny quezada had

just brought his son home from the movies. during the robbery quezada was shot at point blank range. one of his relatives spoke to "action news" about his final moments. >> she heard two shots. he was on the ground. he calls him and tells him come home i heard some shots. he said it was me. i'm on the ground. come bring me water. i'm thirsty. and that's -- that all she remembers. >> "action news' sarah bloomquist is following the investigation. she'll have more on who police are looking for coming up at 6:00. >> ♪ >> all right, turning to politics now a group of philadelphia officials gathered at city hall today to rebuke claims of voter fraud by republican presidential nominee donald trump. trump has repeatedly alleged november's election will be rigged against him tweeting about voter fraud as recently as this morning. at rallies in pennsylvania trump has suggested he could lose the key state through

voter fraud. he's even encouraged supporters to travel to philadelphia to observe the voting process. today both deck and republican officials defended the integrity of voting in the city. >> this is a clear attempt to stoke the biases of individuals across the country but the simple reality is that the citizens in pennsylvania are good people. and they're not going to buy into that. >> the real threat to the integrity of elections is irresponsible accusations that undermine confidence in the electoral process. >> meantime new numbers show hillary clinton with a slight lead in the keystone state. the latest poll puts the democratic presidential nominee up six points in pennsylvania. but the numbers are closer in other swing states. we'll have much more on the race for the white house coming up tonight at 5:30. meanwhile we are two days and countering until the third and final presidential debate. governor chris christie took the stand in his own defense today. as he he faces charges in the so-called bridgegate scandal. he says he was duped into believing those lane closures that made national headlines were because of an actual traffic stud he dee. reporter anthony johnson from our sister station wabc was in court today and has more. >> reporter: defendant bill baroni says he was duped into believing the lane closures were part of a legitimate traffic study. baroni deputy director of the port authority says he fully trusted the government's key witness david wildstein who had taken a lead role in the traffic survey. baroni tried to shed more light on the conversation involving governor christie wildstein and baroni just before the 9/11 ceremony in 2013. bone flee's lawyer asked that the meeting involved talk of political retribution punishment or endorsements. baroni said no. baroni claims he began to suspect something was up after receiving a letter from fort

lee mayor citing punitive or punishment on the fourth day of the lane closures. but when baroni asked wildstein about the claim wildstein told him there was no truth to their idea the lane closures were punishment. the government claims the fort lee lane reassignments were done to get back at the mayor for refusing to endorse the governor's 2013 reelection. as comfortable as baroni was on the stand in the morning, he seemed way out of his element during the cross-examination where prosecutors were trying show he that baroni and sacrilege were close and yet bone he knee failed to respond when the traffic gridlock was bringing fort lee to a crawl. >> certainly a lot more nervous when the prosecutors started setting the stage of well you're the one who said you were always available to. >> there were questions about baroni's testimony before an assembly committee. he said he had to get

of north broad street. police put the child in the back of a vehicle until they could locate the mom. the investigation continues into how the child got away from the parents and as of now, no charges have been filed. a 19-year-old is dead after being shot in kensington overnight. police arrived on the scene shortly after midnight on the 2900 block of rose hill street. they found the teenaged male lying on the street with a gunshot wound to the head. so far no arrests have been made in the case. >> those responsible for setting fire to at least five vehicles and a dumpster in philadelphia remain on the loose tonight. the blazes were set overnight in and around the same area. and as "action news" reporter katherine scott reports no one was hurt but the damage is extensive. >> i looked out the window and saw the car on fire. >> reporter: and soon he saw more. around 4:00 a.m., the calls started coming in for three car fires reported near north 60th street and west columbia

in overbrook. a white dodge journey and chevy malibu charred and destroyed. a mercury lynx right around the corner. neighbors are hoping nearby surveillance in the newly upgraded park caught something. >> it's sickening 'cause we try to keep the block clean and my truck was right there. my truck could have caught on fire. >> i don't understand. so much positive things that are going on, now all of a sudden we got vandalism. >> the flames were shooting up right here. >> reporter: nearby on jefferson by 57th street bob ballard grabbed a hose after spotting flames coming from his neighbor's buick lacrosse around 4:15. >> my next door neighbor called me and told he me my car was on fire. i said on fire? you got to be kidding. >> reporter: firefighters were also called to this dumpster fire early this morning outside this mini market at 56th and master in west philadelphia. the flames melted the siding of the building. then hours later around 8:30 a.m., they heard a fire

truck and yet another report. >> it was paper inside of my wife's gas tank. i came outside and got it out but then right now. >> reporter: this was on nassau road by 61st. he grabbed a fire extinguisher. his wife and son had been leaving to go to school. >> my gas tank there was fire coming out of my tank u clearly a lot of damage to these vehicles. people around here say it's luck dee key no one was killed. >> it was a full tank and it could have been worse. >> i don't understand people. i don't know why they have to do things like this, you know. i don't know why. >> reporter: in overbrook katherine scott channel6 "action news." >> police have released video of the man suspected of shooting an officer in alaska. the dashcam video from the officer's cruiser shows him responding to reports of a shooting in fair banks early yesterday. well, the suspect described as an alaskan native in his 20's shows up with what appears to be a gun in his hands. police say he he shot the

officer multiple times and then took his patrol car. the video then shows when the suspect abandoned the vehicle a few blocks away and walked off. the officer remains hospitalized in stable condition. well, a man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a road rage shooting involving george zimmerman. matthew apperson was convicted last month of attempted second degree murder. he testified that he acted in self-defense after zimmerman flashed a gun. he disputed that. zimmerman is the former neighborhood watch volunteer who wack quitted of second degree murder after fatally shooting trayvon martin in 2012. >> numerous reports of thefts from vehicles in delaware county over the pastor several months. now state police say they have a suspect. take a look at this surveillance video. police say this man is wanted for at least one of the thefts. they have been happening in the edgemont and middletown township areas. in some instances the vehicles were left unlocked with the

keys inside. residents in the area are urged not to do that and if you have any information about this suspect, you're asked to call police. the bravery of a south jersey soldier has been immortalized in his community. the deptford post office was renamed today in honor of firstity salvatore corma. he was killed in action by an improvised explosive device in afghanistan back in 2010. he saved 19 other lives by warning fellow soldiers to stay back after discovering the ied. his mother says the renaming is a great honor. >> it's especially important for me for the children of america to realize that they have a real hero and what the word hero really means. it's not football basketball, baseball. this is somebody who lives moral fiber that our country he is made of. >> she says it reminds everyone to keep freedom alive everyone lab willing to -- has

morning running a good 10 degrees above norm. we're still very comfortable in the mid some upper 70's here north and west from pottstown quakertown, fleetwood 74, 75 degrees. still on the verge of 80 from levittown down to chester. and as we sink to the south and east the shore line a bit cooler today because of the winds off the water which the ocean is now down to 66 degrees. so, we're in the 60's there. but then you work your way inland and it jumps to the mid and upper 70's as you get to hammonton, cinnamon son and even hockessin delaware right now 76. very quiet in the eastern half of the country. high pressure is in control and this strong high is supplying the sunshine and also that heat. the front is way to the north. that's where the jet stream is and you can see the river of clouds as well as some showers north of chicago heading into eastern canada. so for tonight it's very mild and it's going to be overall clear but late tonight some areas of fog developing, 56 to 61 degrees. any fog in the morning will burn off to a lot of sun and

then we're off to the races with that southwesterly wind around these areas of high pressure to the south, 86 degrees. winds between six and 12 miles an hour and that 86 to break the record tomorrow of 85 set back in 1908. smashing the record on wednesday, 85. and then tying possibly the record on thursday so we could have three consecutive days of records over the next several days as we go into the middle of the week that is. the exclusive accuweather 7-day forecast but again all good things if you like this type of weather must come to an end. those records tuesday through thursday, they're going to kind of go away so to speak here. cooler, some sunshine friday, someone degrees with a couple of showers. and then as we go into the weekend, 58 degrees as low pressure winds up in canada, sends a strong wind, a lot of clouds in here for the beginning of the weekend and then we're a little bit below normal still sunday, monday right around 60 degrees with sun and clouds. so get out enjoy even if it's just for your lunch break here
